At the center of all my dinner parties or home gatherings are my cooking pots; they are, after all, the tools that make preparing dishes (and sharing them with friends) possible. So of all my kitchen products, I pay special attention to them – making sure they’re always in the best condition or replacing the ones that have lost their luster. So on that note, my husband and I set out to find a new dutch oven for our kitchen, and when we stumbled upon the aesthetically pleasing Misen 2-in-1 Dutch Oven ($165), we were willing to give it a try.
Designed from four layers of enamel, the seven-quart dutch oven has a polished and modern exterior. I love an Instagrammable kitchen gadget, but this wasn’t enough to convince us. We wanted to make sure it would be functional and durable over a long time. As soon as we unwrapped it (fair warning: it’s quite heavy), we put it to the test. We figured something hearty and time-consuming would challenge its qualities enough, so we settled on slow-cooked oxtails. The dutch oven features a nonstick surface and a large base that allowed for my big pieces of meat to cook comfortably. It also comes with wide handles that make for an easy grip. You have the option of using the enamel grill pan lid or the silicone lid. I used the traditional lid to cover the oxtails, but seeing that it can get sticky and hot quickly, I’ll probably opt for the more firm grill pan next time.
The Misen Dutch Oven offers quality, value, and durability at an approachable price point.
I was worried that placing it on the stovetop would stain the bottom of the pot, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it didn’t. As the oxtails cooked, you could see a splatter of the greasy sauce all over the nonstick surface, but the stains were actually easy to remove. We’ve only been using the dutch oven for a few weeks, but I’m curious to see how long the nonstick surface will hold for.
All things considered, we’re very happy with it. It offers quality, value, and durability at an approachable price point, so it’s definitely worth investing in.
